The Geo Metro is a subcompact car manufactured and produced from the late 1980's until 2001 by General Motors in North America.
The Metro offers compact car efficiency with the luxuries and space of a full size car. It was, indeed, the most fuel efficient car ever produced by GM.
Production originally began in Japan, in 1989, but eventually production was moved to Ontario Canada. In the United States, a single engine was available from 1989 through 1994: a 1.0 L I3 engine.
GM boasted about the Metros furl efficiency and performance. The 1.0 L I3 engine, this 55 hp (horsepower) engine can produce 50mpg (miles per gallon) permitting for longer travel time on a single tank of fuel. A smaller, 49 hp engine has the ability to produce 58 mpg, making the Geo Metro the most fuel-efficient automobile ever produced from GM as well as one of the most fuel efficient vehicles in North America to date.
Although small and economical, the Geo Metro offers a tremendous level of room and comfort. Geo Metro models are one of the highest-rated in the EPA's fuel economy tests, and the recent drastic increases in gasoline prices may be one of the reasons why the Geo Metro sales are 25% higher than they were in 2005.
Beginning in 1989, the Geo Metro was introduced as a four-door vehicle or a five door, to include a hatchback door, as a Chevrolet-Geo; in 1998 it became known as solely, Chevrolet Metro, until 2001 when its production was replaced by its successor, the Chevrolet Aveo and the Suzuki Swift.
A Geo Metro can be purchased for less than $10,000 easily, making the Metro one of the cost efficient vehicles to date. With its low price, fuel efficiency and its' small size, offering space and comfort of larger cars, the Geo Metro will be a convenience and smart purchase for nearly all drivers. With its 5-door model, which includes a larger hatchback door at the rear of the automobile, the Metro is a perfect family car, offering comfort for children and parents, alike. With its sedan model, it has the design and comfort of a more expensive luxury car. Its engine size presents more power and easier handling of preceding sports cars.
