If you are thinking of buying a used car, then you have to consider many factors before you actually sign on the agreement document. You can buy used cars through auctions or from used car dealers. The most important part of the bargain is that you should be able to negotiate well with the used car dealer. The better you negotiate the lesser price you will have to pay.

To be able to negotiate well, you need to do a lot of research and understand how the used car market works. First rule: never start of with negotiation. Always build your ground with solid facts and then start negotiating with the used car dealer. Here are some of the tips about negotiating and what are the factors needed to be taken into consideration while negotiating. A used car dealer will always try to sell the car for the price quoted by him. Here is an insight into that:
  1. Go online and choose the model and make of the used car you want to buy. Once you have done that, get a price quote from all the online used car companies for that specific model and make. Now compare the notes together and find which one is the best quote and also compare it with the quote of the used car dealer you are interested in
  2. Check the other statistics of the used car that you want to buy. Order a CARFAX report that will tell you the past history of that car. It will provide information about previous problems, accidents, if it was flooded or not, and other details that are crucial for making a decision
  3. Look for advertisements for that car specifying a lower price than what the used car dealer has offered. This you can show him to get the price down. You can show the price printouts you have acquired from other used car websites and tell him that his price is inflated.
  4. When you have completed your research, take a good mechanic, and get the entire car tested. Check the tires, the performance of the engine, check the brake and transmission fluids, coolant, the rear view mirror, paint coat etc. Alternatively, do test-drive and get a feel its performance. If you find that the air-conditioning is not working at its optimum level, there is a buzzing sound in the engine or even a scratch on the paint coat you can bargain on that with the used car dealer.
